Goodbye, Comfort Zone

It seems March is a month of trying new things and taking risks.  Last weekend, a time trial; this weekend, a swim meet.  And today…TRX!

TRX is best explained by Coach here.  After reading that, I knew it was something I needed to give a try.  It takes a lot for me to put on muscle (it’s taken 3 years to develop moderate swim muscles) and I’m willing to work any way I can to address weaknesses in my body strength.

So today was day 1 of TRX!  I was a little nervous after reading Julia’s post about how sore she’d gotten.  We’ll see in another day if any insane amount of DOMS kicks in – I tried to moderate my first time on the equipment and ease into it.  Some of the moves I did felt intuitive and I loved being able to use my body weight to work the muscles harder.  Others…were a bit of a challenge – I can tell I will gain all sorts of core strength if I keep this up, I was working so hard to hold positions!

Yes, I had to use Max’s red velvety dog bed as padding for the moves the required knee contact with the floor…it was too ouchy to have them directly on the hardwood!

And with that, I need to crawl off to warm soft bed and collapse…

Good for you for trying all the new stuff!

The TRX looks like serious fun. Am trying to get my trainer to buy one so she can abuse...ahem...I mean train me with it.

Good thing you had Max's bed. All you had to do is roll over and fall asleep.

And yes - this has been the Slowest. Week. Ever. Period. Ugh. :)

I'm pretty sure that's some sort of medieval torture device. But you'll probably enjoy it, since you like Organic Chemistry

Looks painful in that good kinda way. Let me know if it works for ya. I need something that I don't hate to do...I hate lifting and all of 'that.'

Good luck with that TRX stuff. I've been thinking it'd be great for a person who travels a lot. Sometimes I just don't have access to a pool

i admit, when i first saw the TRX at my coach's house, i sorta giggled a little. it looks more sexy than difficult! of course, half an hour later, i was whimpering in pain.

the boyfriend saw a picture and refuses to believe that it's really a workout device though!

That looks oddly comfortable. Hope it went well. Good for you for stepping out of your comfort zone, I need to do that as well.

Oh use a yoga mat:) some people tape their wrists if the atomic position is too much!
Did I mention that we have to tell Troy to NOT call them stirrups?:)

I imagine the dogs must look at you and simply wonder 'Why is she hanging upsidedown from teh door?'...followed quickly by...'Will she make us do that too?'.
