I am starting to feel the hunger. The urge to race, to make my withdrawal from the Bank of Ironman, to get it on…
*excuse me, you, yes, you right there with the food in hand while sitting at the computer – are you gonna eat that?*
Um, yes, I’m feeling that kind of hunger these days too. Last week, there was a day where I had one dinner before agility class and another after I got home. When I got up to pee at 3am (well-hydrated machine, I am) I thought about food and if it was too early to eat something. Today I bought 2 lunches. You know, just in case I get hungry…oh, like 20 minutes after I eat the first one.
It happens.
For some reason there always seem to be two open bags of chips in our house right now. Apparently if I have the bag of chips, Jeff fears what will happen if he takes them from me and just opens a new bag instead.
I’m not that scary when hungry, am I?
*crickets*
Yeah. So. Anyway… It will be interesting to see how my body adapts to NOT training and eating normally when this crazy business is over. I think after a few weeks of replenishing the supplies drained by IM, it might settle down.
As mentioned yesterday, I really am starting to feel like I’ll be ready to race. I know a couple months ago I was bemoaning the fact that so many other IM AZ people were already riding centuries and going long – Liz told me that too many people do far too much far too early in IM training. At the time I felt like I was being held back too much but I will tell you now – I am so glad I wasn’t doing that kind of volume that long ago. These last 3 weeks before taper will be just enough for me, thankyouverymuch, and I will be more than ready to taper. I think we’re going to nail my peak just right!
In other news, go check out this Chicago Marathon report on a totally awesome back-of-the-packer and the people who supported her. I feel very lucky to be toeing the start line at Ironman Arizona with “Crazy Barb!”

Always trust the coach. She's a smart cookie. Don't tell her I said that - she'll take advantage of the info.
Yes, trust the coach. You don't pay them for nothing. I have friends that kill centuries way to far in advance. Fig Newtons on the nightstand always help me;)
Yes. Liz knows what she is doing...
as scary as you may be (Jeff sounds like a smart man when it comes to the chips), take advantage of being able to eat that much food without feeling guilty!
Indeed, IM training is as varied as people themselves. I've not ridden nearly as much as I thought I should have compared to others but, OTOH, I'm not really burned out from all the training either. I think that's a good thing.
Keep the faith in your coach and keep those chips away from me :-)
YEah! You are almost there...
P.S. Have the IM dreams started? :-)
I'm the same way when I eat... and if I don't, look out! My boyfriend actually keeps extra snacks like cookies hidden in case I come home extremely cranky...
And two lunches sounds good... I'm thinking about that now that I just finished lunch #1!
I'm so ready to race mostly because I'm so tired of training.
I am not even eating that much and I'm training and I'm still fat - makes me crazy but my former effort to cut back on food left me so cranky and weak I had to abandon that effort.
When this race is over I am going to eat like a super model and hope for the best.
BRING IT! I'm ready to race - now!
