My triathlon year isn’t quite over yet, but I’ve begun to think about what I want to do with the next one. At the same time, the hockey year is just beginning.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!
The wait has been so long, the summer so sad and empty without hockey in my life.
In just 2 days, I return to our “winter home” to scream and yell until I lose my voice through many NHL games. The indoor temperature counts as icing my legs too, right?
Oh, how I can’t wait to see you, Douglas Built-Like-A-Tree-Trunk Hit-Me-And-YOU-Fall-Down Murray, and all your teammates…
Whoops, I went off on a tangent there, didn’t I?
Anyway. In addition to getting excited about hockey season, I’ve been playing around with a racing schedule for next year. Coach suggested, and I agree, that the year after Ironman is a good time to work on getting speed back in shorter distances. Now that I’ve started working it out, I’m super excited to do mostly sprint/Oly races and improve my performance!
Right now – and this could change at any time and especially after formal consultation with the ELF – I’m thinking next year could look something like this…
March: Mermaid 5K (Momma needs a new 5K PR).
April: Vineman Showdown sprint tri. I have a bone to pick with this race after how it went this year.
May: Rev3 Olympic tri (Momma needs a new Oly PR) with a bunch of my camp/blogger buddies and maybe the Morgan Hill Sprint Triathlon (especially if Macca does it again this year).
June: Maybe the Mermaid sprint tri?
July: The camp/blogger ladies are doing Vineman 70.3 and making a big trip out of it. I’ve done this course two years in a row and…the thought of doing it again actually makes me queasy right now. I wonder if I can instead sign on to be the best sherpa/spectathlete/designated driver ever and hang out with them the whole weekend and they won’t be mad at me?
August: Santa Cruz sprint tri? I swore off ocean races after my first year but maybe I’m ready to do one again.
September: Nothing?
October: SOMA 1/2 iron distance in Tempe. I did the 1/4 iron race here in my first year (I tried to quit the swim in the first 100 yds and the kayaker wouldn’t let me). I think now, with how far I’ve come, I would really enjoy the 1/2.
So that’s where I’m at for the moment… Can you tell it’s a rest day and I’ve had too much time to think? Back to work hard tomorrow!

Hee, over the holiday weekend, I planned out all my races for next year too ;-)
Sharks SUCK! (obligatory)
Damn, I wish I could come play at Vineman with everyone next year :(
See, you *could* have come with us to training camp today =). It seems like life is back to normal when hockey is in season! I like your schedule for next year too!
Ha, I was just sitting down today trying to plan out a running schedule for next year! I guess it's that time of year, huh?
Go Canucks ;)
Nice little plan there.
Oooohhh... planning for the following year is quite possibly the most exciting thing ever! I loved doing it last year (my inaugural pre-planning year) and this year it's been even more fun. So many choices and so many beasts yet to tackle!!! I think your schedule sounds great so far... and with all of your amazing base mileage, I'm thinking we'll see A LOT of PRs!
HOCKEY!!! I recall reading that Jeff plays on a men's league right? My Scott used to as well (until I suckered him into the deep, dark depths of triathlon). I loved watching his games just as much as going to see the pros! And, of course, I LOVED bundling up for the arena... it was really the only chance I ever got to throw on a layer or two! LOL!
Uh, that would be a big fat NO to not actually doing Vineman! I have visions of us plodding through the vinyards together, one upping eachother in "after we're done..." scenarios.
I can't believe the season is going to be over for me in two weeks :-) I guess I'll have to start getting fat again...
sounds like a solid season! good luck with speed work...i hate that stuff!
....really?...hockey?
Looks like a great plan Molly! I love the fact that you love hockey! Kind of like football for me - even thought I watch it mostly with Nathaniel and stuff.
NO problem with the Vineman thing - you do what you want to do!!! AND what's best for you AND - what your heart tells you. Totally cheesey, I know - but true.
Ah yes...hockey! Hard to believe pre-season is here already. I am also super excited about the 2010 Olympics!
Molly you rock as a spectathlete! It would be awesome to have you popping up in unexpected places along the course. At the Mermaid you were like the Bugs Bunny cartoon where he plays all the positions. There's Molly on the swim. How did she get out here on the bike course? There she is again on the run, going the opposite way. And, there she is at the finish!!!
Dave and I were thinking about the Rev3 Oly in May and he's even thinking about the monster Rev3 in September (mostly so we can train together next summer).
