6 weeks and counting!!!!!

With the Ironman World Championships taking place in Hawaii yesterday, it’s a miracle I got any training done at all this weekend.  I finally had to sign off and go to sleep after the last of my friends finished last night and that didn’t leave a lot of time for sleeping before today’s big brick.

It started out with a long swim at dawn at Shadow Cliffs.  I gave Melissa my camera since she can easily swim past me and then wait…

Jenn and Sara are getting used to the water, I’m already heading off into the distance

002

The men were still being sissies about getting in while the women were starting to swim (yes, it was still kinda dark when we started)

003

Melissa got this one of me swimming along (I was smiling but you can’t tell!)

004

Done!!!

008

Then after shivering my way through “transition” at my car, a few of us were off to ride!

I’m glad I had George to chase up a long hill or I wouldn’t have felt slow enough.

014

It felt better than I expected though.

015

There’s Nigel and Jenn behind me, doing great!

012

Rest stop in Clayton, a small town at the base of Mount Diablo

016

Scenery along the way back and one attempt at getting a shot of Nigel behind me on a downhill

022

024

71.03 miles, DONE!  And then it was time for everyone else to head home and me to run on the trails at Shadow Cliffs.

It was not my best training day but on the plus side: (1) I felt strong in headwind (2) I got through the distance regardless of how shitty it felt at some points (3) I had a kickass fast run off the bike.  So going into my longest week of IM training I’ll just have to stay positive and hope that I’m on track.  I’ve finally reached the point where I’m starting to feel ready to race and just get on with it already, and worry about any training days messing me up before the big dance, instead of feeling un-ready.

Training totals for week 42 (October 5-11):
Swim: ~9544 yards (5.4 miles)
Bike: 129.6 miles
Run: 16 miles
Total time: ~15.25 hours

Yes, I agree with Maria's comment about that bubble of water :-)

Great job on that tough ride. I soooo know about those training days that you feel are not your best but you get them done anyway. And to be honest, I think those days are actually more important as we all know that IM training is mostly mental and those days are the ones that tax you there more.

Well done on your week!
