Fun Times on the Bike

As I get ready this morning to head out for a ride – my FOURTH DAY IN A ROW ON THE BIKE (*sorry* that was a little message from my lower body…) – I was thinking about ways I found to amuse myself riding long yesterday.  Most of them involved using information I had memorized in junior high to distract myself with repetition.

I’m sure there’s some sort of psychological diagnosis for that.

#1: Belting out musicals while riding into a headwind.  Jeff was riding behind me so he didn’t hear a thing as I alternated between Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera.  Maybe I was trying to soothe the savage wind?  Heh.  Not with MY singing voice.

#2: When the sun finally came out as we rode through Morgan Hill, I joyfully cheered, “Callooh! Callay! O frabjous day!"  And that launched me into a 30-minute cycle of reciting “The Jabberwocky.”  I alternated between mumbling the words to myself and randomly shouting out verses at the top of my lungs.  I imagine from Jeff’s point of view, that stretch of the ride went something like this:

*riding along in silence*

“AND THE MOME RATHS OUTGRABE!”

“What?”

*silence*

“THE FRUMIOUS BANDERSNATCH!”

“huh?”

“HE LEFT IT DEAD AND WITH ITS HEAD HE WENT GALLUMPHING BACK!”

He’s a trooper, what can I say?

*groan* OK, time to go find the gear I left strewn across the house and car when I was done yesterday and get my arse back on the bicycle.  Happy Monday!

Great job Molly - you are putting in the time, doing all the work - you will be SO ready for your IM. Remember - the training is harder than the race...you are doing amazing!

I'm laughing hysterically. It seems like the more I ride, the more likely I am to sing out loud. If you and I ever ride together it's going to be one big musical adventure. Only I'm prone to country. Yeah, I know....
